Map of Malaysia

Country Profile

Overview

Map of MalaysiaMalaysia is an influential member of ASEAN, with a history of close and friendly links with New Zealand, stemming from Commonwealth ties, the Colombo Plan and shared security concerns.
Malaysia was successful in diversifying its economy from dependence on exports of raw materials to the development of manufacturing, services, and tourism. Prime Minister Mohamed NAJIB bin Abdul Razak (in office since April 2009) has continued these pro-business policies and has introduced some civil reforms. Malaysia coat of arms

Trade, Services and Investment

Malaysia is NZ’s second largest trade partner in ASEAN and its eighth largest overall trading partner. In addition to the AANZFTA, New Zealand and Malaysia have a bilateral FTA (in force since 2010). These all provide for a strong base for further growth in goods and services trade and investment.

Education, Tourism and Air Links are all strong and well established between the two countries.
