Mark Thomas

Mark leads Serviceworks which advises on smart city opportunities and planning, urban mobility, citizen digital engagement, community and economic development - predominantly in Asian markets but also in Australia. The Asian markets he is most familiar with are China, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. He helped established the ASEAN Smart Cities Network in 2017.

He is a regular international speaker and commentator on cities and livability issues and is part of the 50 Most Impactful Smart Cities Leaders group. He received the Leadership Award for Outstanding Contribution towards building Smart Cities from the World Sustainability Congress, and an Asia Smart Cities Excellence Award among other awards.

His key strengths are in strategy development, innovation planning, project implementation, change management and engagement. He has strong commercial and significant international business experience including working with multi-ethnic and indigenous peoples on improving city liveability.

He is an experienced director and has held governance roles across a range of private, public and not-for-profit organisations. He has highly developed networks across business, central and local government and the not-for-profit sectors.

He is normally based in Auckland and Singapore.
